Ninja TV: “Young Sherlock” — a new series by Guy Ritchie

news

Today, “Young Sherlock” premiered — a fresh take on the early years of the iconic detective, now streaming on Prime Video.

The series is directed by British filmmaker Guy Ritchie, who has previously brought Sherlock Holmes to the screen in his feature films. Based on the novels by Andy Lane, the show explores the formative years of the future master detective — long before his legendary cases.

The creators promise a dynamic coming-of-age story with a large-scale investigation, intrigue, and events that will shape Holmes’s character.

What the series is about

The story follows a young Sherlock Holmes, who is only 19 years old. He has not yet become the famous detective and is only beginning to realize his abilities for deduction and analytical thinking.

The plot begins with a mysterious crime in which Holmes unexpectedly becomes involved. Trying to prove his innocence and understand what is really happening, he gradually uncovers a large conspiracy.

The investigation leads the hero to dangerous enemies and people who will play an important role in his future life. The events unfold in the atmosphere of 19th-century England.

Director

The series is directed by Guy Ritchie, one of the most well-known British filmmakers of the past decades. His style is recognizable thanks to dynamic editing, vivid characters, and crime-driven stories.

Among his most famous works are the cult films “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels”, “Snatch”, as well as the “Sherlock Holmes” film duology starring Robert Downey Jr. Ritchie also directed the popular crime film “The Gentlemen” and its television adaptation.

The director already has experience working with television projects, but “Young Sherlock” has become one of his most ambitious series.

Cast

The creators assembled a notable cast that combines young actors with established British stars.

The role of young Sherlock Holmes is played by Hero Fiennes Tiffin, known for the After film series. James Moriarty is portrayed by Donal Finn, while Sherlock’s older brother Mycroft Holmes is played by Max Irons.

The series also features Zine Tseng, Joseph Fiennes, Natascha McElhone and Colin Firth, making the cast one of the most notable among series released this spring.

Reviews

The first reactions to the series began appearing immediately after the premiere. Critics highlight the atmosphere of Victorian England, Guy Ritchie’s energetic direction, and the attempt to portray Sherlock as a younger and more impulsive character who is still learning how to use his remarkable abilities.

According to early data from review aggregators, the series has received generally positive ratings from viewers, while critics note that the project offers a fresh take on the famous literary character.

Episodes

The first season of the series consists of 8 episodes. Each episode runs for approximately 45–55 minutes.

The season was released in full, so all episodes are already available to watch on Prime Video.
