Finn Wolfhard releases his second album

The Stranger Things star continues his music career. The new record features 12 songs with a total runtime of around 35 minutes, live guitars, a touch of country and the perfect soundtrack for a summer evening.
The release is officially classified as rock, but it is not limited to a single genre: Wolfhard blends indie rock, power pop, folk and country with the sound of classic rock bands from the 1960s to the 1990s.
At times, Fire From The Hip sounds like a rehearsal by a great garage band that was accidentally recorded on tape. Elsewhere, it turns into light summer rock ’n’ roll made for driving with the windows down.

How Fire From The Hip was received
The first professional reviews have been mostly positive, although not without criticism. Kerrang! gave the record 3 out of 5, praising its fuller arrangements, Wolfhard’s individuality and his noticeable growth compared with his debut.
However, the publication noted that some of the quieter acoustic tracks get lost alongside the more energetic songs. Apple Music’s editors also highlighted the album’s melodic indie-rock sound.

Who is Finn Wolfhard?
Finn Wolfhard is a Canadian actor, musician, screenwriter and director, as well as one of the most recognisable young performers of his generation. He became internationally famous at the age of 13 thanks to his role as Mike Wheeler in the Netflix series Stranger Things. Wolfhard played one of its main characters throughout all five seasons, from the show’s premiere in 2016 until its conclusion at the end of 2025.
Following the success of Stranger Things, the actor appeared in the film adaptations of Stephen King’s novel It and It Chapter Two, in which he played the young Richie Tozier.
Wolfhard’s other notable projects include The Goldfinch, When You Finish Saving the World, The Legend of Ochi, Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. He also voiced characters in Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, and co-wrote and co-directed the comedy slasher Hell of a Summer with Billy Bryk.

Finn started making music before he became famous
Although the wider public first came to know Wolfhard as an actor, music entered his life much earlier.
At the age of ten, he met his future bandmate Malcolm Craig while filming a music video for the Canadian punk band PUP. Afterwards, he began playing and rehearsing with other teenagers. Some of his earliest small acting roles were also connected to music videos.
His full-fledged music career began after the success of Stranger Things. In 2017, Wolfhard became the vocalist and guitarist of the indie-rock band Calpurnia. After the group disbanded, he formed the duo The Aubreys with Malcolm Craig. In 2025, he released his debut solo album Happy Birthday and returned with his second record just one year later.
Wolfhard wrote most of Fire From The Hip before the release of his first solo album. The song Tunnels is dedicated to saying goodbye to Atlanta, where Stranger Things was filmed for many years, while the brighter Nice to Meet You Again was written after the musician returned to Canada. Finn describes the record as a kind of time capsule that preserves his feelings following the end of the series and the beginning of a new chapter in his life.

Interesting fact
Joe Keery, who played Steve Harrington in Stranger Things, has also been successfully releasing music under the stage name Djo for several years. His track End of Beginning became an international hit and topped the UK chart in 2026, meaning Keery could serve as an excellent example for Wolfhard as he continues developing a parallel music career.
Their music also overlaps in certain ways: both artists draw on indie rock, melodic pop and retro aesthetics, although Djo leans much more heavily towards psychedelic pop and synthesisers.
